Lucky

I have been so lucky in my life. I am eternally grateful for so much. Not least meeting by beautiful Manjula. We have been fortunate to spend over nine years together having created a wonderful partnership first in creating a warm open home, second in establishing Mysore Bed and Breakfast and the family it was at the centre of and third and most importantly a caring, exciting, humour filled beautiful relationship. Thank you my gorgeous Manjula.

It is the most heart breaking experience to lose Manjula. She died this morning in Mysore.

  1. I was so so sorry to get your news this morning, but not entirely surprised. Your last few messages seemed to have been preparing for the worst. Manjula was also lucky to have found you, you gave her such care and happiness over the last nine years. Thinking of you at this terrible time. Much love Jill

  2. Dearest Steve I am so, so to hear this news. I can only imagine how devastated you must feel. She was a ray of sunshine and will continue to be so wherever it is we go after we die. She also seemed like a very brave souls who was very lucky to have had you to enjoy the last 9 years with. What a gift for each of you. Sending lots of love. Emmaxxx

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white Sails to the morning breeze And starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength, And I stand and watch until At last she hangs like a speck Of white cloud just where The sea and sky come down To mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says “There she goes!”

Gone where? Gone from my sight.. That is all. She is just as large in mast and hull And spar as she was when she Left my side, and just as able To bear her load of living freight To the place of destination.

Her diminished size is in me, Not in her. And just at the moment when someone At my side says, “There she goes!” There are other eyes watching Her coming and other voices ready To take up the glad shout, “Here she comes!”

  8. Oh Steve, tears are filling my eyes after reading that. I didn’t know Manjula very well, but feel privileged to have met her, witnessed that smile and those glances between you. She clearly cherished you and you were both lucky to have found each other. I am so sorry, but also happy that you had that time, however brief. I will let Don know and am sure he will want to send you a message in his own inimitable style.
Take care of yourself. If you are in the UK in the summer, let us know. You are in my thoughts, but I feel such joy at having experienced a bit of time with you both. Manjula was also lucky to have been married to you.

    Thank you so much !
All the day, i was thinking to the both of you, Francine

    • Thank you for your kind thoughts and memories. Just now I can’t even begin to think what Lucie and I will do without her. Stephen

  11. We only stayed with for you for a few days, our most unique Christmas ever, an Indian nut loaf. Your home was so special and so welcoming and beautiful Manjula will always be remembered by us. I’m so glad you found each other, you made each other so happy. You gave her wonderful memories, I just wish there was more time for more memories. Thinking of you..

  12. Steve,

I am so, so sorry for your loss – it sounds as though she was an incredible woman and that you shared many special years together.

    You are in my thoughts,
    Karen

    • Thank you, from a very poor background, she had a difficult life but she always made the best of any situation, created our wonderful, open home, connected with hundreds of people around the world. Above all she was my soul mate which I’ve now lost

  13. Am so very sorry to hear this. I have never forgotten her jaggery chai and kind always smiling face.

    Be well.❤️

    Ingrid

  14. Dear Stephen,
We are so sad to hear about Manjula. Mysore BnB is a special place and it is the special qualities of Manjula and you that have made it so. Manjula’s beautiful gentle strength and happiness will stay with us. We think of you in this time of great loss and absence and send you our warmest wishes, Joan and John

  15. I’m very sorry to hear your time together has ended Stephen. You created such wonderful adventures together in a lifetime of nine special years. Best wishes to you at this sad time, Pete and Helen

  16. Dear Stephen,

I stumbled upon your BnB when looking for some experiences around Mysore. Never happened to visit you guys but have followed you ever since. Feel like I have known Manjula and her inspiring life over the years through your posts; thanks for sharing your journey. Please accept my heartfelt condolences.

    • Thank you Akshay for your kind comment. Manjula is a great connector, with an open heart, it’s partly how we’ve managed to be at the centre of a warm and growing family. As her own weren’t really with her, Lucie, I and her friends around the world, the family that she chose were all the more important. I’m so pleased you’ve also been able to be part of that and show how it still continues. My very best wishes. Do stay in touch. Stephen

  17. I am so very sorry for your loss. I followed your page with the hope of coming to Mysore one day. Manjula has been a luminous presence in your posts: such warmth in her smile. She was beautiful in so many ways. My deepest condolences

  18. We are thinking of you, Stephen, and can only imagine your loss. We would love to see you and Oliver here in Lake Oswego again sometime (anytime). We would like to hug you and tell you our special memories of Manjula. You were a perfect pair, and that makes everything so much harder for you now. We have “been there”, and send our love. Kathy and Mark
PS: It is wonderful but not surprising to see the love the two of you have engendered from your visitors and now friends. Please count us in on that score. K&M

    • Dear Kathy and Mark, thank you for your wonderful support. It’s been absolutely horrible as you well know. Sharing my feelings has been a help. Lucie and I are away for a few days in Wayanad and I think she thinks it’s completely bizarre. Just to add to it a siren is now sounding presumably as a signal for work. Just like we hear at the dairy near home. We’re in the countryside now maybe that helps her feel at home 🙃 mad. Chai just arrived. It’s still very confusing and alternating between distressing and beautiful memories. I’m planning a trip to the UK and Canada with half an idea to come down to see you guys. I don’t think Oliver will be able to get away. Im likely to be there from 2nd June for a couple of weeks. Are you likely to be around? Love Stephen and Lucie .
