Art again and again

As part of the festivities we attended a fabulous art show at the Art College just across the main road.

Our no 1 pull was to see Pravalika’s wonderful piece of art.

With tons more to appreciate.

I stopped myself from buying anything. There’s already too much to fit into the new house.

But how about a bird for the tree?

Fresh from College

No not really, although I’d like that too.

I’m just back from the annual art show at CAVA

As expected, there was a fab show of amazing art from engravings through sculpture to paintings

I also was pleased to meet some of the students (some of them again) who introduced me to concepts, stories and completed works.

Monisha and Vikas

My only regret is, I didn’t realise yesterday that it was on and take Kaveri.

Anjali gets married.

Since Punith introduced us I’ve realised how much Anjali is a real star

She got married today. Every wedding is same but different, down to caste, experience, attitude and get-on-ableness of the generations, so it’s not unlike absolutely everything else in consistently inconsistent India.

Even in the midst of planning a wedding and balancing the interests/preferences of in and out laws Anjali was instrumental in making our creativity day for the children at Kaliyuvamane.

Thoughtful dad.

There was a great mix of people and more recently found great friends.

They were obviously also having fun

Guess which twit forgot to put his kurta on?

Congratulations to Anjali Sakleshpur and Veethahavya Kootanoor Sheshadrivasan

Happy Birthday Manjula

It would have been her 50th birthday.

Manjula’s Mysore organised a creativity day for the 100 children of Kaliyuvamane school.

Our main team was Anjali leading on painting/drawing, preparation and overall coordination, Shubhash origami and Rena, sculpture.

Thanks to Faizan for videos and still photography.

Aryaa assisted with with the preparation. Ali, Miai, Ina and Sowbaghya together with the whole school team, helped out.

At the end, I explained why we’d organised the day.

The children and staff met Manjula (I cycled her images), we thanked everyone and then we were rewarded by the wonderful ice cream donated and served by Polar Bear.

Stephen’s thanks.

“Today is because being creative is fun and good for us.

Did you enjoy it?

The day was Organised by Manjulas Mysore, to remember my beautiful wife who lived to give love to everyone. Today that beautiful woman is still with us in spirit and would have been 50 today.

Our new logo

Thank you to everyone for taking part and making it good. that is … Everyone at Kaliyuvamane: children and team who run it, to the artists and helpers.

Polar Bear’s fantastic treats are the tops, thank you for the ice cream.

Well done everyone

Let’s now enjoy our ice cream and look at the art.”

Ina from Australia.

Message from Ina —Thomasina Sng — who has visited most years since we opened Mysore Bed and Breakfast. She became a great friend to MAnjula, is here now and helped us celebrate Manjula’s Birthday.

“Manjula was and still is an inspiration, from a background that would have made most people selfish and angry, she chose to be caring and giving, her happiness was in making and seeing other people happy and this is the love that she continues to teach.” Ina

We’re out again this evening to celebrate Manjula’s birthday.

Arty Tarty

We piloted an idea to introduce young dynamic artists to children at Kaliyuvamane who remained at school during the summer holiday.

Young people doing fab things.

In August 2023 on what would have been Manjula’s 50th birthday, the artists will return to the school with all the young people there for a full day of creativity.

Who knows where it might lead

Footnote

Kaveri is now attending Kaliyuvamane and living there most of the year.

CAVA

Our very local art college had an open day today.

We have great friends from here including Punith, Karan and a couple of the wonderful lecturers.

And to prove I’m Indian I just had to take a selfie.

Three Princesses

and a Sun with a beard

Ritu brought her lovely painting of Manjula’s and Stephen’s home

with thanks to Desai Somesh, Rita’s dad who took the photographs.

Remembering Manjula.

It’s all go..

We use any and every opportunity to recognise and remember, what would have been Manjula’s 48th Birthday is extra special.

On monday afternoon, 23rd August (postponed from Saturday due to a curfew) we have open-house for friends to drop-in for a drink and cake or sweets, to visit the garden we’ve just planted, see Manjula’s two painted portraits and have a chat.

We’ve now got two paintings by Cinderella, more here and here
